Mr. Robert W. Padgett - Padgett Music Studio-Plano-Texas

About

Robert W. Padgett was born in Carmel, California on July 20, 1969. This was the day that Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin set foot on the moon. Robert studied Violin with Michael Rosenker, a former associate concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic and student of Leopold Auer, and subsequently with Mr. Rosenker's pupil, Mr. Owen L. Dunsford. Robert studied Piano with Ren e Bronson and Sally Magee. As a sophomore in high school, he joined the Monterey Symphony as a section violinist and has performed under the direction of Haymo Taeuber, Clark Suttle, Max Bragado-Darman and Arthur Post. After graduating from the Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California, Robert attended Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, New York, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in psychology. At Vassar, he studied Piano with Blanca Uribe, music theory and composition with Richard Wilson (a student of Aaron Copland), and played violin with the Vassar College Orchestra. Robert is married with five children, performs Violin and Piano professionally, and is an accomplished music instructor on Violin, Viola, Piano, Music Theory and Composition. He has performed for Prince Charles, Lady Camilla, Governor Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver, Steve Jobs, Van Cliburn, Joseph Silverstein, and many others. His original compositions have been performed by the Monterey Symphony, at the Bohemian Grove and the Bohemian Club in San Francisco, and other private and public venues. Students are prepared to take bi-annual examinations administered by the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music using their curriculum for violin, viola or piano. My instructional methods vary from laid back to strict, depending on the goals of the student. I strive to make each lesson fun and informative, and welcome parent involvement with younger students. I am open to teaching a variety of styles, e.g., fiddle, jazz, and classical. My curriculum for new VIOLIN students begins with a combination of "A Tune A Day" Book 1 by C. Paul Herfurth, Leopold Auer Book 1, and Susuki Violin School Book 1. After 3 to 6 months my students learn to play short songs and exercises using basic bow and finger combinations. This involves the ability to read notes in the treble and bass clefs, understand note values, basic time and key signatures, and dynamic and tempo markings. In addition, students are expected to take and pass the Prepatory or Grade 1 Level with the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music. My curriculum and expectations for new VIOLA students mirrors that for beginning violin students. With beginning PIANO students I prefer some combination of Pageants for Piano Book 1, Bastien's Piano for the Young Beginner, and Alfred's Basic Piano Book Level 1A. There are various series for adult students that are also excellent such as Alfred's Basic Adult Piano Course. For very young students I use Alfred's "Music for Little Mozarts." After 3 - 6 months, students should be able to play short songs and exercises using various fingerings, dynamics, and articulations. This involves the ability to read notes in the treble and bass clefs, understand note values, basic time and key signatures, and dynamic and tempo markings. Robert Padgett is a teacher, performer and composer. He is currently writing a book. He is also an approved teacher of PISD. Call and schedule for private instruction in playing Violin, Viola & Piano.
